The Past The Technical Industrial Institute Omar was born in 1895 thanks to a legacy of Giuseppe Omar, citizen of Biandrate. Since the first beginning it was considered as a point of reference in Novara for the professional training of young people coming from the surrounding areas. The Institute, originally called “Professional School of Arts and Crafts of first level” for carpenters and mechanics, started its courses in 1896. Only in 1933 it became “Technical Industrial Institute” with the aim of training young people to reach the degree of Industrial Expert with directive tasks. In the following years new specializations were born in order to meet the needs of the country and those no longer used were abandoned or modified: the specialization in Electronics was introduced in 1963 and in 1991 it was created the course in Industrial Chemistry.

The Present

At present the courses of the Institute are: Expert in Chemistry, Electrotechnics and Automation, Electronics and telecommunications and Mechanics.
The activities inside the institute carefully follow the didactic and technological innovations.
The school is a place where you can learn notions and concepts useful for the future, a place where you learn to live, to plan your choices and above all to know yourself and to have relationships with other people.

The biennium

The first two years of the course strenghten the knowledge learnt from the primary school both in classical and in technical-scientific disciplines. New disciplines are faced as basis for the acquisition of an accurate method of study in order to successfully face the following three years of specialization.
The teaching during biennium is integrated with laboratory activities not only for scientific areas but also for classical areas and it offers also activities for supporting the basic abilities and the learning method.

Enterprises for the students

- All students and their parents can use the premises and freely express their ideas inside the school in line with the directives of the institute.
- Within the first ten days of the year the institute offers the possibility for all students of the first year to visit the structures of the institute and to know the organization and the rules of the institute.
- Within the first month the school organises a meeting between the parents of the students of the first year and the teachers in order to promote a mutual knowledge.
- The parents can attend to class councils at least once for each trimester of the year. During this meeting there is the possibility of individual talking with the teachers.
- All students have a personal record book containing the personal data of the student, weekly timetable of the lessons and of the teachers. The book will be used for justifyng absences and for reporting all marks. Thanks to this instrument the parents can follow the progress at school.
- The institute offers the possibility of following the progress at school also by internet.

The institute has laboratories provided by equipments and instruments adequate to the teaching needs. Teaching is supported by the use of modern informatic and audiovisive instruments.
All laboratories are connected by LAN and connected to high speed internet. The institute is equipped with multimedial laboratories and with a room for videoconferences and for receiving satellitar transmission.
